I have been writing personal essays, memoir, and short fiction since 2010, when I retired from a long career in librarianship. Throughout my working life, I found I liked writing reports, papers, articles, and even memos! Clear thinking comes to me via writing; I write to explore a concept, analyze problems, and work out solutions. Several of my articles have been published in professional journals and books. I also served as editor for a specialized library journal. When I retired, I discovered another dimension to writing: exploring the self, digging up memories, trying out answers to childhood questions, or just exploring a theme to see where it takes me. My work has won awards and recognition and several of my memoir/personal essay pieces have been published. I recently completed my memoir, Living in Two Worlds: A Memoir.
I was born in Chile to a Chilean father and American mother. At the age of ten, I came to the U.S. with my mother, sister, and brother to live in Sacramento, California. In the mid-1970s I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to pursue a master’s degree in librarianship and ultimately found my home in Berkeley, where I live with my husband.
