Episode 19

Mona’s letter continues:

It was a Friday evening he came that last time. It was late; he had already been drinking; I could see it in his eyes, his voice. You two were already in bed and both asleep when I turned off the light. You had finagled Craig to have his kitten stay with us that night. I don’t know what I had done to anger your father. He slammed open the front door and, without any other word but “You bitch! You’ll see what I can do,” he bashed my head to his chest. I could barely breathe, much less scream out, and, with beer bottle in his other hand, he pulled down my underwear and forced the bottle inside me. After throwing me down onto the floor he ran upstairs where you two, my sweet darlings, were asleep. A surge of energy came to me. I ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and went after him. Just then I heard Jeanne’s wailing, piercing my ears and heart. By the time I got to the top of the stairs, he was tumbling into Julie’s room. On top of you, that’s where I found him, grunting and panting and groaning. I stabbed him. Not once, but over and over again until he let out one last sigh and fell down to the floor.
